For those of you who are on the fence about attending an Unleashed workshop, we feel that it’s only fair to let you know that this is our last one. In a lot of ways, we have accomplished our mission to raise awareness for pet photography as an art form and a business.

Our workshops have been dedicated in a big way to marketing and business practices. Sure, we’d all rather be playing with our cameras, but anyone (with enough practice) can learn to use a camera. Where do you learn to run a dog photography business? Which shots are the ones that sell? How do you set your prices? And so that’s why we spend 50% of the workshop on business and 50% on shooting.

And it must be working –look at the terrific group of Unleashed graduates who have been successful in almost every corner of this country (and Canada). We are very proud! So if you’ve been putting off your decision, now is the time. As of this date, we have 6 spaces left. We really hope you’ll join us.

SIDE NOTE: We reserve the right to possibly hold ‘graduate school’ for past attendees, and maybe some portfolio shooting weekend retreats. So if you’re a past Unleashed attendee, keep checking back for fun stuff.

We’ve just confirmed the next venue and details so those who have been waiting patiently for information will be contacted shortly via email. As of this minute we have 18 spots and over 40 people requesting information, so please respond as soon as possible.

We will post a list of convenient hotels, but we’ll be shooting at Poppy Blue Photography (Barbara Breitsameter’s studio) in Park Ridge, Illinois and utilizing a nearby nature preserve for outdoor shooting. Indoor sessions using natural light are also planned. We use a variety of dog models and shoot in small groups so each attendee will get to shoot with each of the three instructors. This kind of hands-on shooting in small groups is almost impossible to find in a workshop setting –so if it’s time to add pet photography to your life, this is the time and place to do it!

If you’re checking flights and airfare, you will want to fly in to O’Hare in time for the first session on Sunday evening, June 26th. We’ll meet at 6pm with wine and cheese and get to know each other –and start our first exersize– designed to help you identify your personal style!

Day 1 and Day 2 will start EARLY and be very full! Business and marketing classes in the morning, and shooting all afternoon and in to the evening. Lunch and snacks are provided.
Day 3 is all about Sales. How to talk with clients, shoot for what they want — and get the big sales!

Feeling like a caped crusader that swept into San Antonio with my constant cry of “you’re a professional, raise your prices” I am now settling in and re-visiting my creative goals for 2011.

Of course, I’m marketing. Of course, I’m looking at new prices and products. Of course, I’m looking for new ways to tweak my workflow. But alongside these very important threads that continue to run through my brain I’m weaving something different in to the mix. A few goals for my creative side.

I saw a lot of Texas (mostly interstate highway) on my drive back to Dallas and made some interesting and inspiring detours. Texas is really good for that. You just never know what you’re going to find 15 minutes from the highway! So I’m encouraging dog photographers everywhere to up their game and really stretch creatively. Our numbers are growing and our clients will soon have many more options and higher expectations when they begin to look for a pet portrait. Let’s WOW them.

If you haven’t attend IUSA in the past, it is an AMAZING convention. Literally 13,000 photographers in one place with 3 days of drop-in mini workshops and speakers. Almost every vendor you can think of will be there – so you can stroll through the trade show and see samples of all the new products, meet famous photographers, even touch and play with the latest equipment. I started attending over 6 years ago when I was a part time photographer and it has been a huge help to me over the years.

So even if you don’t attend our pre-convention class — don’t miss Imaging USA!
